Before & After

Epic Cleaning is a local cleaning company in Tauranga with a strong reputation. They offer excellent cleaning services, hold the highest Google review rating, and have a large word-of-mouth customer base. Their focus on quality, reliability, and professionalism makes them the top choice for both homes and businesses in the area.

Goal

The client reached out for help with SEO and Google Ads. Upon reviewing the website, I realised that the user experience (UX) and the user interface (UI) required significant improvement.

Challenges

  1. Although the client had excellent Google reviews, the website did not adequately reflect their high-quality work.
  2. There was no clear sitemap structure for all services. The client offers services in three distinct categories—Residential, Commercial, and Industrial cleaning. Not only do these categories require different cleaning tools, but they also target different market segments. However, all services were lumped together under a single “Services” category. As a result, users searching for specific services found it confusing, and the website failed to cater to each market segment effectively. By creating separate archive pages, we aimed to streamline navigation, improve SEO, and ensure that each user segment is presented with relevant information.
  3. The website featured a ‘Before and After’ gallery, but because it used the Divi theme builder, it was cumbersome for the client to create images in Canva or Photoshop and then upload them. Most of the time, the uploaded images had incorrect aspect ratios, making the process time-consuming.
  4. The contact form did not include inline validation.
  5. The website lacked clearly defined Unique Selling Propositions (USPs).
  6. High-value client logos were missing, so there was no strong visual proof of working with reputable clients.
  7. The website did not have any videos to demonstrate how the team professionally cleans houses, offices, restaurants, and industrial buildings.
  8. There were no visible credentials to help users trust the cleaning company.
  9. There was no quote page designed to filter client types and the required services.
  10. Because the website was built using a drag-and-drop builder, section margins/paddings were inconsistent across different pages, font sizes varied, and there was no harmony between background colours and font choices.

Solution

After conducting thorough research on both local and nationwide competitors, we decided to prioritise proper UX design. We aimed to create a website that clearly showcases the services provided by Epic Cleaning, enabling users to filter services based on their needs and be directed to the appropriate service archive page.

  1. Service Tabs on the Homepage
I added three distinct tabs on the homepage—“Residential Cleaning”, “Commercial Cleaning”, and “Industrial Cleaning”—so users could directly view relevant services.Services Tabs UI
  2. Revised Sitemap Structure
Instead of placing all services under “/services”, I created three new slugs: “/residential-cleaning”, “/commercial-cleaning”, and “/industrial-cleaning”. This allowed for dedicated archive pages and improved indexing on Google. For instance, if someone searches for commercial cleaning, the “/commercial-cleaning” page would appear in search engine results. Sitemap
  3. Service Videos
We produced video content for each service and embedded these videos on their respective service pages. This not only increases the time users spend on the site but also educates them on the professional cleaning processes and tools used. Youtube channel screenshot
  4. Client Logo Carousel
A carousel of client logos was added to demonstrate that Epic Cleaning works with reputable clients, thereby boosting trust. Logos carousel
  5. Real-Time Google Reviews
I integrated real-time Google reviews from the Epic Cleaning Business Profile so that each page displayed authentic testimonials from satisfied customers. Google reviews ui
  6. CRM Integration
We connected the website to a CRM system to track leads, streamline the sales process, and transmit form data via API.
  7. Clear USPs with Icons
Distinct USPs were highlighted with icons, making them easy to digest for users who are merely scanning the webpage.usp ui
  8. Consistent Layout & Spacing
By leveraging Google Material Design guidelines, each page now has a clear layout, unified spacing between elements, and the right contrast ratios for improved user experience. google material design margins
  9. Service Packages & Pricing
High-value services were paired with transparent pricing to pre-qualify leads before they reached the quote form. This approach improved Google Ads conversions and boosted the lead-to-sale conversion rate. Service Packages UI
  10. Upgraded ‘Before and After’ Gallery
I built a bespoke backend feature allowing Epic Cleaning’s team to upload images without needing Canva or Photoshop. The front end automatically creates a before-and-after slider and includes filters so users can select each service to see the relevant gallery. This streamlined the process of uploading and organising gallery images. slider gallery ui
  11. Video Gallery
We also introduced a video gallery where users can browse through all of the client’s cleaning videos in one place.

Web Development

WordPress

We used WordPress as a headless content management system (CMS). This allowed the Epic Cleaning team to log in, create, and manage all their pages, posts, images, and service details in one place, without worrying about the technical aspects of the website.

Next.js

Next.js was chosen for the front end to ensure a fast, modern, and secure user experience. We integrated it with WordPress through the REST API. This setup allowed for server-side rendering (SSR) and static site generation (SSG), helping pages load quickly and improving search engine optimisation (SEO).

Material-UI (MUI)

To keep the design consistent and easy to navigate, we used Material-UI. It follows Google’s Material Design guidelines, making elements such as buttons, tabs, and forms uniform across the entire site. This not only improved aesthetics but also provided a better overall user experience.

CRM Integration

We connected the website with a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system so that lead information is automatically captured and organised.

Google Business Profile API

We utilised the Google Business Profile API to automatically fetch and display real-time Google reviews on the website. This integration ensures that the latest customer feedback is always visible, enhancing the website’s credibility and providing potential clients with up-to-date testimonials without manual updates.

Mailgun for Email Automation

To handle email communications after form submissions, we integrated Mailgun. This powerful email service ensures that clients receive prompt and reliable confirmation emails when users submit inquiries or requests for quotes. Mailgun’s robust infrastructure guarantees high deliverability rates, reducing the chances of important emails being marked as spam.

API Connections

We established API endpoints to streamline data transfer between WordPress, the CRM, Mailgun, and other third-party services. This seamless data flow makes the site more efficient and easier to maintain, reducing the need for manual interventions and minimizing errors.
