Epic Distributors is a Tauranga-based company specialising in premium-quality cleaning products. Their products are built with industrial-grade materials, ensuring durability and high performance. One of their most popular items is their “magic sponge”, which has become a favourite among professional cleaners across New Zealand.

Goals

  1. Double their sales by the end of 2024.
  2. Attract more bulk product enquiries and increase their wholesale orders.

Challenges

Epic Distributors had an existing website, but it wasn’t performing well. The average session duration was very low, and there was no payment gateway, meaning all sales were managed over the phone and by sending manual invoices. The main issues with their website included:

  1. Website design inconsistencies
    • Built with a drag-and-drop page builder (Divi).
    • No unified design structure.
    • Poor spacing and margins.
    • Colours were not used consistently.
  2. No product filters on product pages
    • Customers found it difficult to sort or filter products by category, which led to confusion and frustration.
  3. Not mobile-responsive
    • The site did not display properly on mobile devices, making it hard for customers to browse and buy.
  4. No payment gateway configured
    • Customers couldn’t pay online, slowing down the buying process.
  5. Poor user experience (UX)
    • Some interactive elements were broken or didn’t behave as expected.
  6. Inconsistent font sizes and alignment
    • Text was often misaligned or displayed too large/small.

Solutions

Developed a custom WordPress theme

We avoided using a drag-and-drop builder to maintain consistent design and performance. The theme was created to reflect the brand’s identity, with clean layouts and consistent spacing and colours.

Improved homepage layout

Instead of a rotating image slider, we added clear category cards in the hero section. This helps visitors instantly see product categories rather than waiting for slide transitions.

Google Maps API for Address Autocomplete

We integrated the Google Maps API at checkout so that customers can start typing their address, and it suggests the correct address automatically. This reduces mistakes when entering shipping details and makes the checkout process much faster.

Showcased new arrivals

Added a “New Arrivals” carousel on the homepage to highlight fresh product lines and encourage sales.

On the product archive pages, we introduced filters based on categories, tags, and attributes. This makes it easier for customers to find the right product quickly.

Enabled AJAX Add to Cart

This allows customers to add products to their cart without the page reloading, making shopping faster and smoother.

Enhanced single product page

  • Included a delivery and click & collect option, increasing flexibility for customers.
  • Integrated a video section where a team member demonstrates and explains the product. This video helps build trust and shows the product’s real-life use.

Shipping costs are now automatically calculated for the North and South Islands, and for rural or urban areas.

Integrated Stripe, PayPal, and Direct Bank Transfer, giving customers multiple ways to pay securely.

Created a Wholesale Account feature

Retailers can sign up for a wholesale account and place bulk orders directly through the website.
This helps Epic Distributors manage large orders more easily and helps track all sales in one place.
